Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to create an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is located on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is ideal for hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machinery use either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, since the lift mechanism only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift utilize the same lifting technology. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is specifically made for surfaces which are not even. These models also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which elevates both vertically and diagonally. This unit has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform that is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machinery. These equipment offer an excellent solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is very vital to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
