Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are large industrial machines designed with a straight boom arm that is extendable. The boom is normally located on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are typically used for jobs that require tasks to be carried out at heights which exceed other kinds of lifts. Like for example, employees are able to carry out exterior repairs or renovations on buildings of medium height but using these lifts as opposed to having the additional work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The bucket of the boom lift generally just holds one employee. These buckets are more suited to specific jobs such as electrical repair, rather than window washing or general maintenance. These lifts are available with both indoor and outdoor tires and come in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces below the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. Because these types of equipment should be directly positioned beneath the work site, these units are way more limited in their use compared to boom lifts.
Scissor lifts do, however, provide larger platforms which allow the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface when the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these types of machines, since they need to sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are great for being utilized for window installation or cladding, as they provide the personnel with the desired mobility; they are also a good option for window cleaning applications or exterior repairs.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle usually used to lift employees for various tasks done at heights. Generally, these kinds of trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and operates the machine. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand along with a winch for lifting and an actuator arm for lifting the boom.
Boom trucks take workers to heights which would normally be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to raise heavy supplies or equipment from one location to another. There are various kinds of cranes which can perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different kinds of machinery excel at various tasks and are suitable for particular applications and accomplishing particular jobs.
