Forklift Controls
Among the most common kinds of machinery you would see in any warehouse is a forklift. These all-around equipment are comprised of a vehicle with two pronged forks at the front that are capable of hauling and lifting bulky items.

Forklifts are able to maneuver in small spaces and can lift items into hard to reach, up high places. Forklifts are still really dangerous equipment and need to be used in a safe manner all the time, after proper training and certification has taken place.

Take the time to read the owners handbook after acquiring a new forklift to help you get familiar with the controls. The instruction manual will feature the specific location of each and every control and the functions it has. Most forklifts have two levers that control the forks. The first lever controls the fork height. In order to make the forks go down, you push the lever forward. To be able to move the forks upwards, you simply pull back on the lever.

The forklift's second lever is utilized to tilt the forks allowing for better weight distribution across the forklift. This tilting action helps to keep objects stable and won't allow items to fall off when driving. Moreover, it helps things slide off when unloading in a more balanced way.

In order to tilt the forks back, you pull the lever back and to be able to tilt the forks forward, you simply push the lever forward. Several forklift models are outfitted with a third lever that controls the width of the forks. Every one of these levers is located just to the right of the operator's seat.

Prior to utilizing the forklift, sit inside of it and go over what the controls do with a trained coworker. Be certain to do this while the forklift is off and not in use. Ask the qualified professional if you have any questions regarding how anything functions.

Watch how the coworker demonstrates the function of each of the controls. Observation is often the best way to learn a new skill. On hydrostatic lift trucks, notice that in order to make the machinery go, you use the gas. And if you want to make it stop, you just release the gas pedal. There is no brake on these kinds of forklifts. There are several kinds of hydrostatic forklifts that are equipped with battery powered engines that turn off when the gas pedal is released. They start up once the gas pedal is pushed again.
