History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was originally established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The original name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years. Presently, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and worldwide cargo handling applications.
